Kuny enjoys being active in the community and has served on a number of civic and philanthropic boards.  He has a special interest in the Community Service League, an organization, started by Bess Truman, with a goal of providing financial and other assistance to those in need.


Kuny has served on the Board of Directors and in leadership roles for Community Services League, the Sunshine Center, the Independence Chamber of Commerce, Santa-Cali-Gon Fairboard, L.E.A.D. Independence, and Youth L.E.A.D.

He is currently chairman of the 39th Street Transportation Development District and vice-chair of the Independence Tax Increment Financing (TIF) Board.

Mr. Kuny enjoys sailing, reading and bike riding.  Among other bike rides, he participates annually in the Bike MS ride.  A two day 182 mile ride to benefit the MS Society.  In 2010 Mr. Kuny was in the top 150 fundraisers for that event.

Mr. Kuny's education and professional experience include: University of Missouri - Columbia (B.A., 1983) University of Missouri - Kansas City (Juris Doctor, 1986) Admitted to Missouri Bar (1986).  Since then, Mr. Kuny has acquired a substantial amount of trial experience and is well-respected by the judges he appears in front of and fellow attorneys.

 Mr. Kuny has attended and completed the Guardian ad Litem training.  He is appointed by numerous judges to serve as a Guardian ad Litem. 

He has also completed the required training to be a court ordered mediator; helping parents and spouses identify common ground in their family law disputes.

Judges routinely appoint Mr. Kuny to serve as special masters.  Kuny is one of only several in eastern Jackson County appointed for that task.  Special masters perform like judges, holding hearings, considering the evidence and entering decisions regarding issues like temporary maintenance (alimony), child support, the award of court costs and attorney fees.
